New horizons in infrastructure design
By ProSt 2009 you will design your roads as never before. The new technologies introduced in this version will let you obtain a result quickly, with the precision and the accuracy that an engineering design demands.
By ProSt it is possible to design roads, hydraulic works and any other linear works; the project includes the alignment design performed according to topographic surveys or existing maps, the management of terrain and project longitudinal profiles and the calculation of cross sections and volumes. The design can be performed with policy check and includes sight check. Premium version includes a set of tools to solve easily and with precision all the problems concerning the design of road intersections.
Survey and map
According to a topographic survey or an existing map, ProSt can carry out the modelling of the terrain on which to set the whole project and the extraction of sections and terrain profiles.
Horizontal and vertical design
It is possible to design the horizontal alignment directly in the graphic window, allowing to define any kind of alignment. Sections and terrain profiles are extracted from survey data or from the maps loaded; the vertical design is performed by inserting grade lines and vertical curves.
Policy check supports the operator during the phases of insertion and modification of the horizontal and vertical alignment by generating the corresponding speed diagram.
Cross sections and typical sections
The project and its parameters can be controlled by parametric design. Cross sections are completed by inserting the corresponding typical section but it is always possible to modify the parameters of the single section. A specific editor allows to create and customize one’s own typical sections by using a wide library of parametric objects the user can extend.
Volume and quantities calculation
Volumes and quantities are calculated according to the elements available in the sections; the quantities to be calculated and calculation rules can be defined directly by the user without limits to the accounting potential.
Dynamic design can automize the whole process of project creation and modification, bringing about a global updating of all the elements and project data.
Prost includes a sophisticated system for the management of every kind of intersection: roundabouts, crossroads and interchanges. All these situations are managed with the smallest number of axes and with the rendering of the 3D model; policy check is included.
Drawings, planimetry, profiles and sections can be customized by defining drawing styles and dimensioning that can be used also in other projects.
Sight check is carried out precisely according to a 3D model of the project and can determine the widening necessary to grant the sight; a widening can be associated to the roadside objects of the typical sections used.
By a specific procedure it is possible to calculate the project elevations that can grant a minimum cover thickness according to the existing pavement.
It is possible to build a 3D model of existing tunnels and extract the cross sections.

In 2009 version the window of parametric design has been further renewed, so as to make the management of the data involved in the generation of a project more complete and easier.
Dynamic design has been boosted and optimized, to allow the management of wider projects; automatic generation functions have been made faster and the creation flows of the axes belonging to the intersections have been improved. The setting of the parameters involved in the creation has been made easier and it is now possible to set the parameters also for more axes at the same time.
Real Time Design (RTD)
Real Time Design (RTD for short) is an innovative system for the insertion, modification and analisys of project data; it is not just a simple function or window, but a sophisticated system allowing to integrate and share project data between different modules and windows, and offering the user the new opportunity of an easier and more user-friendly design.
Axis data from cursor position
The tool status bar, besides coordinates, displays also some information about the axis, calculated on the position of the cursor; according to the projection of the cursor position on the current axis, station, distance, direction angle and project elevation are calculated.
Planimetry - Project Minimum Values
In horizontal alignment insertion and edit the tool proposes and displays the minimum values provided for by the policy as far as curve radius and clothoid A parameter.
Planimetry - Cross sections in planimetry
The drawing of the cross sections in planimetry can be customized and it is also possible to decide whether the station label must be located on the right of the axis and the name must be located on the left or vice versa. The kind of display can be set for all the axis sections, but it is also possible to manage the display mode for every single section.
Profile - Project minimum values
In the procedures for the insertion and modification of project profile the tool proposes and displays the minimum values provided for by the policy as far as the radius of parabolic and circular curves.
Profile - Vertical alignment schema on dimensioning
A new dimensioning option allows to obtain in the profile dimensioning the vertical alignment schema; the grade line and vertical curves that make up the altimetric design are displayed along with their data.

A specific page allows to set titles and dimensioning colour in profile dimensioning; in this way, it is possible to manage different colours for the single dimensioning rows.
Sections - Height difference between section polylines
A specific option allows to obtain a column reporting the height differences between any section lines.

Sections - Update single section
A button in the navigation bar of the sections graphic window allows to update completely the current section without having to restart the dynamic design and the updating of the axis data. The command recalculates the terrain line and inserts the typical section only in the current section.
Typical sections - Benching
Two new objects can be used in typical sections to generate automatically the laying layer benching; the first draws the bench according to a fixed width, while the second draws it according to a fixed height.
Volumes and surfaces
In the window of calculation and management of calculated volumes it is possible to display the quantities (cut and fill, section editing, materials) calculated for every subproject and their total. The table is drawn so as to list in the rows the subprojects and in the columns the quantities calculated; the last row reports the total of every single quantity.
Policy - Speed diagram
Speed management by section has been integrated in the speed diagram dialog box. Speed definition procedure has been completely renewed and allows now to specify speeds also on intersections.
Policy - Check policy concerning intersections
Policy checks have been introduced both for at-grade intersections ( simple intersections and roundabouts) and for in/out lanes of interchanges. For every at-grade intersections sight triangles are generated; for roundabouts deflection angles are verified to check the trajectory deviation while crossing the intersection. For in/out lanes the different segments which make them up are studied and tested: acceleration/deceleration lane length, manoeuvring lane length, inflow lane length and curve stretch.
Easy Intersection System
The management of intersections, which was exhaustive also in the previous version, has been boosted and optimized; now all the functions for the management of intersections are grouped in the Easy Intersection System, a sophisticated intersection management system which, thanks to a new methodology, allows a more comprehensive and precise management of every kind of intersection, from roundabouts to crossroads and clovers.
Renew - Repavement
In road design it is often necessary not only to widen but to repavement or modify existing roads. As far as the cover of the existing pavement, normally a minimum layer (overlay) of new material must be kept and this is precisely what ProSt Renew commands deal with. ProSt Renew commands can set a relationship between the project horizontal alignment, the edges of the existing horizontal alignment and the survey model of the current situation; from the analysis of such data, a profile polyline is calculated, which will represent the ideal project elevation to keep the minimum layer required.
The presence of tunnels, both in the topographic survey and in road design, is in some way a specific situation which cannot be dealt with and managed by traditional modes. ProSt contains some commands and options meeting this kind of needs.

ProSt Premium extends ProSt Standard with a set of tools to solve easily and precisely all the problems concerning the planning of road intersections, from a simple At-Grade intersection to very complex interchanges, rotary intersections, etc. ProSt Premium includes specific functions for the survey and design of tunnels as well as a set of commands for the calculation of the repavement elevations of existing roads.
ProSt Y: Railway design and grinding
This module extends the basic module by allowing a complete design, planimetry, profiles and sections, of single track/double track railway lines. There are also specific elaborations allowing to test and grinding the existing railway settings according to the survey performed.
